Peel Police Services Board
Peel Police Services Board is the civilian body governing Peel Regional Police. It's responsible for ensuring that the police service abides by the present policies and procedures set out in law and through board policy.
The Board can revise policies, which may change some of the Chief's responsibilities but doesn't interfere with the daily operations of the police service.
Chief's Responsibility
The Chief of Police is responsible for the day to day operations of the police service and oversees operational decisions in accordance with the objectives, priorities and policies established by the Board. The Chief of Police works in tandem with the Chief's Management Group (CMG) to make these operational decisions consistent with the governing law and Board policy.
Police Services Act
The Police Services Act (PSA) came into law in Ontario in 1990 and replaced the Police Act of Ontario. The Act is enforced and the responsibility of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Police Officers in Ontario are governed by the Police Services Act (PSA) and can face discipline when misconduct occurs.
