Peel Police Service Board
Peel Police Service Board is the civilian body governing Peel Regional Police. It's responsible for ensuring that the police service abides by the present policies and procedures set out in law and through board policy.
The Board can revise policies, which may change some of the Chief's responsibilities but doesn't interfere with the daily operations of the police service.
Chief's Responsibility
The Chief of Police is responsible for the day to day operations of the police service and oversees operational decisions in accordance with the objectives, priorities and policies established by the Board. The Chief of Police works in tandem with the Chief's Management Group (CMG) to make these operational decisions consistent with the governing law and Board policy.
Community Safety and Policing Act
On April 1, 2024, the new Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA) came into effect, replacing the Police Services Act (PSA) which came into law in Ontario in 1990. The CSPA legislation is designed to strengthen the relationship between police and the community, fostering an environment of trust, understanding, and cooperation.
