Vulnerable Persons Registry

The Peel Regional Police Vulnerable Persons Registry (VPR) helps emergency services locate and/or identify missing vulnerable people. The VPR allows parents and/or caregivers to provide critical information about the individual’s needs and how to best help them during a crisis.

A person can be registered by a parent, guardian, caregiver or someone with Power of Attorney (or similar authority). Individuals eligible for the VPR include, but are not limited to those who:

  • Live in, attend school/daycare/work or often visit Brampton or Mississauga
  • Are Autistic, on the Autism Spectrum, living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease or other related disorders
  • Wander or get lost and cannot communicate or return to safety on their own

After you register, police will contact you to confirm that you have the right to provide this information and review other information and safeguarding measures.

If you have questions regarding who can join the VPR, please email VPR@peelpolice.ca, or call 905-453-2121 ext 3677.

To register, you must provide the following information about the vulnerable person:

  • Name, date of birth and physical description (include scars or birthmarks, etc.)
  • Languages spoken/understood (verbal, non-verbal, sign language, etc.)
  • Medical condition or diagnosis
  • Important medications, if any
  • GPS tracking device information, if available
  • Interests/fascinations
  • Routines or locations where the vulnerable person may go
  • Locations they have been previously located
  • Specific behaviours that the officer(s) may encounter, including triggers or things to avoid
  • Tips for calming or redirecting them, including helpful ways to communicate
  • Two recent photos (.jpg format):
    • A photo of the person’s face (shoulders up)
    • Full body photo including any assistive devices (cane, walker, wheelchair, etc.) if used

You must also provide your own name, date of birth, address and contact information. You may also list other support people. This information will only be used by emergency services for the purposes of this program.

  • If the vulnerable person is 17 years old or younger, renew every year.
  • If the vulnerable person is 18 years old or older, renew every two years.

You will receive an email reminder approximately two months before the expiry date (the Vulnerable Person’s birthdate). It is your responsibility to renew on time and provide updated photos.

IMPORTANT: Profiles remain active even if renewal is late. The value of the VPR relies on registrants maintaining current information. Registration can be withdrawn at any time upon request.

Please report any major changes immediately, including:

  • Drastic changes in height/weight
  • Change in address or school
  • Change in emergency contacts

You do not need to report a change in hair cut/style/colour.

Changes and/or updates can be emailed to: VPR@peelpolice.ca

First Link Referral Program

Peel Regional Police and the Alzheimer’s Society of Peel started Project Lantern in July 2024. It is the first program of its kind in Canada. Its goal is to help prevent people with Alzheimer’s or dementia from going missing in the Region of Peel.

The First Link Referral to the Alzheimer’s Society of Peel connects families living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia to community resources including professional support, day programs and education.
