FAQs for Teachers

The Peel Children’s Safety Village is designed to deliver age-appropriate safety learning classes to school children from all across the Region of Peel. Programming is currently aimed at grades one, two, three and five, with a different theme for each grade.

There is no charge to attend the Safety Village, however, the school is responsible for the transportation cost. The Safety Village does arrange the bussing at a discounted rate, and the school is invoiced directly from the bus company.

Due to classroom size, resources, and staff our class sizes are limited to a maximum of 45 students.

Of course! Teachers who have one or more special needs kids in their classes are asked to kindly notify us of this when booking their classes. That way we can be prepared to alter the programming. Also, teachers are requested to please ensure that there is adequate parent/helper support when you attend the Village. A good ratio is one (1) parent/helper per five (5) children. In classes with special needs kids, you will want to ensure that the ratio is lower.

Please note that our staff are there to assist your students in having a meaningful learning experience – they are not teachers but rather subject matter experts, and as such it is expected that teachers will remain engaged and in control of classroom behaviour management during the in-class and outside learning components. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter will make for a more productive learning opportunity for all the students.

Our Safety Village was renovated in 2018. As a result, we added an accessible washroom with aids for changing (table), wider door entrances, and better accessibility throughout our facility. There is an accessible parking spot at the front of our building.

Unfortunately, due to the bus schedules, our program times are not flexible.

Safety Village Program Times

Session Time
A.M. Session 9:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
P.M. Session 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Full Day (Grade 5) 9:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Buses must be leaving no later than 1:30 p.m. to get students back to school in time for the buses to start their afternoon runs.

The reason that certain programs are limited to certain months is that we have only a short season in which to operate our outdoor programs which involve our miniature jeeps or scooters.

The Peel Safety Village has limited parking on site – so parents are encouraged to ride the bus with the classes they are accompanying. However, for those who need to bring their own vehicles, they are welcome to park on the road out in front of our Safety Village, or in the rugby field parking lot west of our building.

Classes will be greeted on the bus by Safety Village staff where brief instructions will be given. Upon entering the building children will be asked to remove their shoes/boots. Inside the first classroom there are hooks for the students’ coats, etc. Our classrooms have carpets on the floor, where students will sit, and there are chairs for the adults.

We have student washrooms, and accessible washroom/staff washroom.
