VIDEO: The Workhorse of Peel Regional Police

WATCH

Made in Brampton and driven by Peel Regional Police, the Dodge Charger.

The Dodge Charger is our choice for a police cruiser and is used by frontline officers. It is their mobile office.

When the Charger is delivered to us it’s a blank slate, a simple white car. Employees from our Fleet Services Unit get to work by adding the decals and then continue to provide ongoing maintenance to the vehicles. Technicians from our Telecommunications Systems and Services then install emergency lighting and sirens that you see and hear along with Mobile Data Units (MDU) and communication devices. This is all done at our Materials Management Centre which houses a 30 bay auto repair garage, an 8 bay electronics installation garage, an auto body shop and a car wash.

With everything added to the car it’s now ready to be the mobile office for our officers, allowing them access to all the information they need to do their job. The MDU provides our officers with the ability to read calls for service, write reports, use mapping capabilities, and to look up information on vehicles and people.

What are some of the differences between the Charger you can buy and the police version?

“A higher output alternator, bigger brakes, and a heavy duty suspension with bigger struts are some of the differences,” advises Patrick Bareuther, a Fleet Technician.

The Dodge Charger is a trusted, important tool that is used every day to help officers do their job and keep the community safe.
