School Resource Officer Saves a Life
When Cst. Ioanna Eritsos, walked into John Fraser Secondary School on December 22, 2018, little did she know that just a few minutes later she would be saving a life.
Ioanna is the School Resource Officer for John Fraser Secondary School and was there meeting with students and staff prior to the winter break. While there, a staff member at the school, Penni Gunby, began to gasp for air and indicated that she was choking. Ioanna quickly made her way over to Penni to provide assistance and it was at that time that Penni lost consciousness. Having recently re-certified in first-aid, Ioanna sprang into action and provided Penni with J-thrusts to her abdomen, causing the item blocking her airway to become dislodged and allow Penni to regain consciousness.
“The holidays would have been very different for my family if it weren’t for Ioanna and her quick response to my emergency”, said a very grateful Penni.
Employees from Peel Regional Police undergo constant training on life-saving techniques, which prepares them for situations such as the one Ioanna faced. Well done Ioanna!
