Raising the Pride Flag

Raising the Rainbow flag has become a Peel Regional Police tradition.  This will be the second year in a row that Peel Police have been honoured to raise the Pride Flag outside Peel Regional Police Headquarters.   Peel police officers were joined by community members from Peel Pride, Rainbow Sauga and Moyo Health and Community Services, City councillors and Members of Parliament to support and celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

“Awareness, acceptance and support of the 2SLGBTQ+ is crucial to an inclusive society and something that our organization strongly believes in”, said Chief McCord.

Last year, Peel Police announced the launch of the Safe Place program. It's a voluntary program for businesses, schools and other organizations to provide all victims of hate-motivated crimes and incidents, but more specifically the 2SLGBTQ+ community a secure location for victims to report a hate-motivated crime and to get the assistance they need, with compassion and dignity.

Since that time, there have been 38 businesses with 191 locations and a total of 336 Safe Place stickers affixed to various premises that have participated in the Safe Place program in the Region of Peel.

“It is important to recognize the essential worth of every person and to promote the development of harmonious relationships amongst all members of the community, not only this week, but every day of the year”, said Chief McCord.

The Pride flag will fly proudly at Peel Regional Police Headquarters for the week of July 5 to July 12, 2019.
