Peel Regional Police releases 2021 Annual Report

Peel Regional Police is pleased to present its annual report for the 2021 fiscal year, where strategic priorities on Peel’s community, people and work continued to remain a key focus.

“Like the previous year, 2021 was another defining year in policing, where we continued as an organization to move forward to achieve our goals,” said Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah. “We're proud of everything we accomplished and look forward to continuing the important work in operationalizing our Community Safety and Well-Being strategy and to achieving our vision, together with our community partners and public members, of becoming the most progressive, innovative and inclusive police service in Canada.”

The 2021 Annual Report provides an update on the progress achieved under the three areas of focus as part of the 2020-23 Strategic Plan – Our Community, Our People and Our Work. The report outlines year-over-year crime trends, information on key initiatives, and achievements accomplished by employees during a challenging and unprecedented time.

Some noteworthy highlights of 2021 include:

  • the launch of Peel Regional Police’s Mental Health and Addiction Strategy, the first outcome of efforts of a working group comprised of community partners, sworn and civilian members.
  • the operationalization of the Peel Region Situation Table in January 2021, a multi-sector partnership providing wraparound supports for community members identifying with high-risk levels for social disorder or crime. 
  • the implementation of the Innovation and Technology Strategy, which was created to support Peel Regional Police’s technological and innovative advancements, including the Digital Officer Transformation Program.

To ensure adherence to usability and accessibility requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the 2021 Annual Report is available in a digital format version, which features translation capabilities and a built-in search function for navigating content easily.

The Peel Regional Police employs 2,200 police officers and over 900 civilian members. It comprises of five divisions and specialized bureaux that serve the cities of Mississauga and Brampton and is second largest municipal police service in Ontario.
