Arrest Made in Vandalism of Tamil Genocide Memorial in Brampton
Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Hate Crime Unit have arrested and charged a young offender after the Tamil Genocide Memorial at Chinguacousy Park was vandalized with derogatory spray-painted messages.
On Friday, March 20, 2026, officers responded to Chinguacousy Park after reports that the memorial had been defaced. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the vandalism and immediately assigned the investigation to the Hate Crime Unit.
Following a thorough investigation, a 14‑year‑old male from Brampton was arrested and charged with two counts of Mischief Over $5,000 on Tuesday, March 31. The youth will be required to attend before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a young person; therefore, the identity of the individual charged in this investigation is protected.
