Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP)

Since 2020, the Government of Canada has prohibited over 2,500 assault-style firearms. In light of this, on January 17, 2026, the Government of Canada announced the Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP). The federal government has now closed (as of March 31, 2026) the compensation period for the surrender of assault-style firearms as part of the ASFCP program. While Peel Regional Police did not participate in the federal initiative, our Service continues to collect and process firearms that are voluntarily brought to our divisions by residents of Peel Region. There is no compensation provided for firearms surrendered at a local Peel division.
