Young Person Arrested Following Ride-Share Carjackings in Brampton

Region of Peel Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have arrested and charged a young person in connection with two separate ride-share carjackings in Brampton.

On Sunday, March 1, at approximately 7:50 p.m., a ride-share driver was robbed at gunpoint in the area of Cedar Lake Crescent. The suspect, posing as a customer and wearing a face covering, pulled out a handgun and demanded that the victim get out of the vehicle before fleeing in it.

On Monday, March 2, at approximately 11:05 p.m., a second ride-share driver was robbed at gunpoint in the area of Salisbury Circle after picking up a passenger. The suspect again fled in the victim’s vehicle.

Patrol officers from 22 Division quickly located the second stolen vehicle nearby. The suspect fled on foot, discarded a loaded firearm, and was arrested a short distance away. The firearm was recovered by police.

As a result, investigators identified the suspect in both incidents as a 17-year-old from Brampton, who has been charged with the following offences:

  • Disguise with Intent x2
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x2
  • Point Firearm x2
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm x2
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There was Firearm x2
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x2
  • Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order x2
  • Failure to Comply with Sentence or Disposition x2
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order x2

The accused was held for a bail hearing and attended The Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person, and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
