VIDEO: Region of Peel Council Approves Police Budget
We are pleased to announce that the Region of Peel Council approved the 2019 Peel Regional Police budget. The 2019 Budget totals $423.1 million which is a 5.4% increase from last year. This will allow us to address the increased demand for policing services and help alleviate workload pressures resulting from growth within the Region of Peel.
“I would like to thank the Police Services Board and Region of Peel Council who voted to pass our 2019 Budget. It will allow us to hire more officers to support the front-line and civilian employees to support operations and address increased workload, ensuring service levels are maintained. The funding will help ensure we are well-resourced to deliver on our Vision of A Safer Community Together,” said Chief Chris McCord.
Here are some of the key highlights on how we are investing to serve our community better:
- Fifty-five additional uniform officers to address community safety and workload pressures.
- Ten additional communicators to address increased calls for service.
- Five additional prisoner escort officers to address increased workload resulting from the addition of eight new courtrooms.
