VIDEO: Grade 9 Students Report for Duty

WATCH

As we head into the holiday season, we look forward to spending time with family and our loved ones. So many times during the hustle and bustle of everyday life we don’t often get the opportunity to deeply connect with our families. But recently, I had the privilege, along with 59 of my colleagues, to bring our grade nine children to work and get to know each other on the job.

This was an awesome opportunity to show my daughter what being a Peel Regional Police officer is all about.  The 60 kids in attendance were exposed to several areas within our police organization, including: Canine, Tactical, Explosive Disposal Unit, Communication, Forensic Identification Services and Crime Stoppers. The kids were given the chance to get some hands on learning and experience a day in their parent’s working world.

I was able to tag along as a leader and share my insights and experiences not only with my daughter Kaitlyn, but with the group as a whole.  As I round out the last years of my career with Peel Regional Police, it was a chance for my daughter to see the passion I have for policing, the good in what we do and how it has played such an important role in our lives.

Our ride home that night was filled with chatter about everything she had learned and how much fun she had.  I was so proud to include her and to introduce her to my policing family.  As she disappeared into her room that night she said “thank you mom for taking me to your work. That was awesome! Do you think I can do what you do?”

Opening their world to every possibility is the best we can offer as parents.

Check out their day by watching this video.
