Video: Falling Back in Time

WATCH
It's time for us to turn our clocks back one hour and fall into Daylight Standard Time on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 2 a.m. Getting one more hour of sleep is exciting for most of us. Unfortunately, there are some negative health impacts that have been discovered with the switching of time.

For many years now, Canadians and others around the world have been setting their clocks forward in the month of March and back in the month of November. This essentially began so we could make better use of our daylight hours. Research has shown that in the first few days of sleep disruption, there are increases of car accidents, heart attacks and higher levels of unhappiness.

A few little changes during your day may make all the difference in how your body reacts with the changes in your sleep patterns. Follow these simple little steps to keep you safe while you travel in a vehicle or on foot during the change to Daylight Standard Time.

  • Keep your sleep on track.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings.
  • Stay visible.
  • Make eye contact with drivers, while you are in or crossing through crosswalks and intersections.

Let's change the statistics this time around and make this year's change to Daylight Standard Time, one without injury.
