VIDEO: Cops for Cancer – Solidarity is a key to Support
Every year, Peel Regional Police dedicates numerous hours toward volunteering service and raising funds for various local charities. In 2018 alone, we raised $1.1 million dollars for community causes.
Among the supported charities is the highly engaging ‘Cops for Cancer’ campaign. With a full schedule of fun community events like car washes, barbeques, trade shows, corporate events and of course head shaves, the excitement of the campaign flows through the halls of all Peel Regional Police facilities as well as the facilities of partner in Peel Region.
In the weeks leading up to the main Cops for Cancer head shave event, teams compete for who will get the most pledges for their hair. In the case of some new head shave participants, (especially those with really long hair) they summon up the courage to stand alongside their veteran colleagues and in the shine of their new bald identities.
All of this hype has a purpose. It is an opportunity for participants to acknowledge and support the members of our community who, through the nature of the treatment, are forced to lose their hair in order to increase their chances of survival against a cancer diagnosis.
Including pledges from this year’s 115 head shave participants, the sale of t-shirts, lanyards and collector coins, our Cops for Cancer campaign raised a total of $8375.50 for the Canadian Cancer Society; a 71.6 percent increase from last year’s campaign.
