Vehicle Stop Leads to Multiple Firearm Charges in Mississauga

Region of Peel – Officers from Peel Regional Police’s Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) team have laid multiple firearm-related charges following a vehicle investigation that led to the seizure of two loaded handguns in Mississauga.
On Saturday, Sep. 27, 2025 at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Atlantic Drive and Shawson Drive. During the investigation, officers determined the driver was in contravention of the Cannabis Control Act. As officers conducted their investigation, the vehicle’s occupants attempted to flee on foot, and the driver attempted to drive away. All were apprehended and placed under arrest.
A search of the vehicle and area revealed two loaded handguns: a Glock 27 handgun containing .40 calibre rounds and a Glock 26 containing 9mm ammunition.
As a result, Hemin Darwesh (22), Marcus Smith (23) and Ayman Abucar (22), all from Mississauga, were charged with the following:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (×2)
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (×2)
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm (×2)
- Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There was a Firearm (×2)
- Careless Storage of a Firearm (×2)
Darwesh was additionally charged with:
- Obstruct Peace Officer
At the time of his arrest, Smith was on parole for possession for the purpose of trafficking and subject to a firearms prohibition. As a result, Smith was also charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order.
All three individuals were held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
