Vehicle Stop Leads to Arrest

Region of Peel – Officers from the Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Policing (STEP) unit have arrested two individuals and seized a firearm following a vehicle stop in Mississauga.
On Friday, Aug 29, 2025, STEP officers investigated the occupants of a vehicle for liquor licence act offences near Torbram Rd and Drew Rd. During the investigation, officers located an illegal loaded Glock 23 handgun.
As a result, Tia Reid, a 26-year-old resident of Courtice, and Timothy Vernon, a 39-year-old resident of Brampton, were arrested and charged with multiple offences under the Criminal Code including:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
Additionally, Reid was charged with Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court, while Vernon faces two counts of Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order.
Both individuals were held for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
