Update: Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run in Mississauga

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau have arrested a Mississauga man following a fatal fail to remain in Mississauga.

On Friday, Nov. 14, at approximately 9:05 p.m., a Mini Cooper struck and killed a pedestrian at the intersection of Eglinton Avenue West and Fallingbrook Drive. The driver then fled the scene without stopping to render assistance to the victim.

At the request of the family, Peel Regional Police is identifying the victim as Santosh Kumar Patra, 56, of Mississauga.

Through an extensive canvass of the area, investigators located CCTV video that shows a male suspect removing the rear licence plate of the vehicle and conceal it in the trunk before fleeing.

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, investigators located the involved vehicle and arrested Romany Elhariry, 46, of Mississauga. He has been charged with the following Criminal Code Offence:

  •          Failure To Stop at Scene of Accident Resulting in Death

His first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 22, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police would like to thank the public for their collaboration and assistance in providing video footage and information to investigators, which helped identify the suspect.
