Tristan Kettles Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament
On Thursday, July 26th, 2018, The first annual Tristan Kettles Memorial Slo-Pitch Tournament was held in honour of Constable Tristan Kettles #3680 who passed away far too young when he was involved in an off duty car accident. Tristan was a beloved member of the Peel Regional Police, first starting his career as a Police Cadet in 2011. He later went on to graduate from The Ontario Police College in 2014 to become a Constable at 11 Division in Mississauga, where he served proudly for 4 years. Tristan was well known service wide for his volunteering spirit, his unmatched work ethic, and his friendly but distinctly unique personality and quirky sense of humour. He had an eagerness to help others and quickly became a mentor to many new members of 11 Division. Tristan was a member of the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band and has volunteered countless hours of his time to numerous causes in the community, and has a lasting legacy through all officers that were fortunate enough to work alongside him. He was a highly valued member of our police service, and he is fondly remembered by so many colleagues, family, and friends that love him and miss him.
Members of 11 Division assembled eight teams and raised $2500 in honour of Tristan and chose to donate all proceeds from the tournament to Wounded Warriors Canada. Wounded Warriors Canada is an organization that provides support services and programs for Veterans, Armed Forces members, First Responders and their families. These programs are made possible through a host of community events and corporate fundraising.
“It was a great day for friends, family and colleagues to get together to remember and pay tribute to Tristan. He was one of a kind. You only had to meet him once to realize what a great person he was.” Says Sgt. Paolo Carretta who is the head of the tournament committee.
Peel Regional Police Superintendent Rob Shearer was there to share some stories as well as Peel Regional Police Association President Adrian Woolley and Peel Regional Police Association AAA member Darrel Beck attended to show their support. The tournament was honoured to have Steven Topham from Wounded Warriors Canada drop by to say hi to everyone and thank the tournament committee for their efforts.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to Hazel Mae from Sportsnet for coming out to the tournament and making a lasting impression on everyone there. As well, Jim and Stephanie Kettles (Tristan’s parents) who were there to take part in the days events.
This tournament was a success because of the efforts from everyone involved from the organizing committee, the players, the volunteers, the sponsors and the special guests. We could not have done it without you.
