Travel Agent Charged with Defraud the Public
Region of Peelâ Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Fraud Bureau have arrested and charged one woman in relation to a fictitious travel agency.
Between the dates of April 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018, Libia Guerra Paez from Mississauga operated a fictitious travel agency, marketing various vacation packages. She accepted fees from multiple victims without actually providing any vacation services.
Police have identified 22 different victims from Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto. The payments for various vacations were sent via credit card payments and bank e-transfers associated to Libia Guerra Paez. After the payment was received, the victims would receive falsified vacation packages that were of no value. Soon after the victims would then attempt to contact Libia Guerra Paez regarding the validity of their tickets, at this point she would cease correspondence.
The total loss to these victims was $108,268.01.
On March 14, 2019 at 10:04 a.m. Libia Guerra Paez a 40 year-old woman from Mississauga attended a police station in Mississauga. She was arrested and charged for Defraud the Public. Libia Guerra Paez was release on a Promise to Appear and an Undertaking requiring her to abide by several conditions including abstaining from selling travel. She is scheduled attend the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Brampton on April 15, 2019.
