Traffic Stop leads to Firearm Seizure
Region of Peel – Officers from Peel Regional Police 22 Division have arrested two Brampton men following a traffic stop in Brampton.
On Jan. 20. at approximately 3 a.m, officers conducted a traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act infraction in the area of Mclaughlin Road and Queen Street. During the stop, officers observed the occupants to be in violation of the Cannabis Control Act. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a loaded illegal handgun.
The following individuals were arrested and charged:
Tyrique Charlton (18)
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition knowing its possession is Unauthorized x2
- Possess Firearm with Altered Serial Number
- Passenger – Fail to Occupy Position with Seat Belt
Kevin Nguyen (20)
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing There Was a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x2
- Possess Firearm with altered serial number
- Have Care and Control of Vehicle or Boat with Cannabis Readily Available
Both men were held pending a bail hearing.
