Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Charges
Region of Peel – Officers from 12 Division have arrested and charged two men following a vehicle stop in Mississauga.
On Saturday, Jan. 3, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Dundas Street East and Dixie Road. Officers detained the occupants under the authority of the Cannabis Act and conducted a search, during which a loaded illegal handgun and a magazine containing ammunition were located.
As a result, the following individuals were arrested and charged:
Lavone Reynard, a 31-year-old man from East Preston, Nova Scotia
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possess a Firearm with Altered Serial Number
- Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
Romaine Cain, a 32-year-old man from Brampton
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possess a Firearm with Altered Serial Number
Both men were held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
