Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest with Multiple Driving-Related Offences

Region of Peel – Officers from the Safer Roads Team (SRT) have arrested and charged an individual following a traffic stop in Brampton that revealed multiple driving-related offences.
On Thursday, Aug. 28, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Mississauga Road and Bovaird Drive West. During the interaction, it was determined that the driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle and had a suspended driver’s license under provincial regulations.
Mitchel Wheeler, a 42-year-old man from Brampton, was arrested and charged with Operation While Prohibited (X9). Wheeler’s arrest follows a documented history of dangerous driving behavior spanning several years. Investigators note that his continued disregard for nine separate driving prohibitions, including previous convictions for impaired driving, flight from police, and failure to stop at accident scenes, demonstrates an ongoing risk to public safety. This pattern of conduct appears to have been interrupted only during periods of incarceration.
In addition, Wheeler was also charged with Drive While Under Suspension (X2), which are provincial offences related to unpaid fines and remedial measures.
As part of the enforcement action, Wheeler’s vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
He held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
