Toys for Tots – Giving the Gift of Christmas
It all began in 1993 when Peel Regional Police partnered up with Canadian Tire and Salvation Army to create the Toys for Tots campaign. Officers initially collected donations in water jugs to purchase new toys for underprivileged children within the community. Each year we strive to reach more and more children by delivering a message of hope and encouragement to them and their families in a manner which is meaningful and relevant. In 2017 nearly 9,000 families were assisted by the campaign.
On November 12th we kicked off the 26th annual Toys for Tots campaign and it has grown beyond anything we could have imagined. From now until December 16 we invite you to participate by donating new, unwrapped toys, gift cards, cash or Canadian Tire money to any Peel Regional Police station.
Peel Regional Police officers and civilians volunteer their time at one of the nine Canadian Tire Stores within our region where they encourage donations which are then used to purchase toys on scheduled “shop dates”, usually once per week during the campaign, and are then distributed within the Region through the Salvation Army.
Constable Laura Tyrer is the Chairperson for the 2018 Toys for Tots campaign and she says, “It is such a wonderful opportunity to be able to give the gift of Christmas to so many children and families in need. The generosity within Peel Region is incredible and I can’t wait to have another successful campaign this year.”
