Three Males Arrested in Hate-Motivated Crime in Mississauga
Region of Peel– Officers from 11 Division Uniform Patrol have arrested three males in relation to a hate-motivated crime in the City of Mississauga.
In the early morning hours of Thursday, August 16, 2018, the three suspects were at St. Edith Stein Elementary School in the City of Mississauga. Using spray paint, they wrote graffiti in the form of hate-motivated words and symbols.
Leonardo Diaz, an 18 year-old male of Mississauga, and two 17 year-old males of Mississauga were arrested a short distance away from the scene, and charged with Mischief Over $5000. All three suspects were released with future court dates in September 2018.
A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identities of the Young Persons charged in this investigation are protected.
“Community safety is our number one priority. The Region of Peel is one of the most diverse and inclusive communities in Canada and hate motivated crime or incidents will not be tolerated.” said Chief Jennifer Evans.
