Ten Highlights from Safe City Mississauga Justice Luncheon

On Friday, June 15, 2018 Chief Jennifer Evans spoke at the Safe City Mississauga Justice Luncheon on Policing in the Region of Peel.

Chief Evans addressed some of the burning questions such as call wait times, workload, crime trends and highlighted the work of our officers and civilian employees.

Here are ten highlights from the Chief’s speech at the Justice Luncheon: 

  1. Our Communications Centre received over half a million calls in 2017, an average of 1,750  per day.
  2. Over 400 firearms were seized in 2017.
  3. Officers attended over 5,000 calls for individuals in a mental health crisis over the past year.
  4. Crime Prevention officers provided education to over 8,000 students and adults last year.
  5. We issued almost 100,000 tickets for Highway Traffic Act offences in an effort to keep our roads safe.
  6. A “Safe Place” program is set to launch this summer to assist LGBTQ+ citizens in identifying places within the community that openly welcome and commit to support the safety of LGBTQ+ citizens. 
  7. We acquired a brand new Mobile Command Centre with current technology to assist investigators at major scenes.
  8. We added an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, more commonly known as a drone, to our investigative toolbox.
  9. A new Marine Zodiac is expected to launch this fall. 
  10. We launched our new innovative website to keep our community better informed.
