Raising of a Flag

Watching the flag peacefully blow in the wind brings pride, but watching the accomplishments of the Athletes brings so much inspiration.  Peel Regional Police and Special Olympics athletes proudly raised the flag at Peel Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, March 25 as part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Ontario.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics movement, the 2019 Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Youth Games will bring together 2,000 student-athletes from around the world to Toronto, May 14th to 17th. For the first time, high school-aged athletes with an intellectual disability will have the chance to compete in an international sports competition. Athletes aged 13-21 both with and without an intellectual disability will compete in athletics, basketball, bocce, floor hockey or, soccer.

The Games are an opportunity for these athletes to come together in a fun yet competitive environment and showcase their hard work, dedication and commitment to their chosen sport. Every athlete participating in these games has trained hard in their home communities and have made a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, to ensure they are able to compete to the best of their abilities.

They Games will bring together athletes, families and communities and promote respect, acceptance, inclusion and human dignity.

Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt
