Public Assistance Sought in Police Officer Impersonation/Fraud Investigation

Region of Peel – Investigators from 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance for information regarding a fraud investigation involving the impersonation of a police officer in Brampton.
On Aug. 9, 2025, the victim provided personal information to a spam text they believed to be real. At approximately 5:45 p.m., the victim was contacted by a male party who advised that he was an undercover officer with Toronto Police Service and there had been fraudulent activity on their account. Shortly thereafter, two suspects attended the victim’s residence in the area of Finegan Circle in a black SUV. The victim provided the suspects with their bank cards and subsequently had $15,000 taken from her account after they left. The suspects did not provide any police identification to the victim.
The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as male, South Asian, 36-38 years old, short black hair, heavy build, wearing a checkered dress shirt. The passenger is described as a male South Asian.
The suspect vehicle is described as a new black four-door Mitsubishi SUV. Inside the vehicle was a working computer situated between the driver and passenger seat with a police sticker attached.

Card fraud continues to be a serious concern, and your awareness is key to prevention. If you suspect someone claiming to be a police officer is not legitimate, request their identification and confirm their credentials by contacting the police service directly.
