Protecting Your Home While You’re Away
It is time to remind all homeowners to be cautious while away for extended times as it can increase residential break-ins. With the inclement weather or papers piling in doorways, homes are easily identified as being unoccupied and can be targeted for a break-in.
If you are planning to be away, have trusted neighbours, friends, or family members check on your residence regularly including clearing snow around entrances, driveways, and garages.
If possible you should place interior lights on timers, install external motion sensor lights and have your mail or papers removed from the front of the residence. Should you want to take it one step further, have a neighbour park a vehicle in the driveway while you’re away.
Peel Regional Police would like to remind all residents to be vigilant in keeping an eye on their neighbourhoods and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
