Police Investigating Discarded Military Ordnance
Peel Region â Officers with the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating military ordnance that appear to have been discarded in the City of Mississauga.
On Sunday, July 22, 2018 at approximately 6:55 p.m. military ordnance were located in Garcia Park in the area of Whitehorn Avenue and Britannia Road West in Mississauga. The items were determined to be two grenades manufactured between 1917 and 1980. It is still undetermined whether the grenades are inert or live pending analysis. The area has been thoroughly searched by officers, and no further military ordnance were located.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses to the incident or any persons who may have video surveillance, dashboard video, or any information regarding the discarded items.
Peel Regional Police would like to remind the public to remain vigilant and cautious around objects that appear suspicious or out of place. Please avoid any contact with the item and notify police.
Unwanted firearms and ammunition can be submitted for destruction, please contact 905-453-3311 to make arrangements to have an officer attend your residence. Do not bring these items to a police facility.
