Peel Regional Police Summer Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Initiative

Region of Peel – Road Safety Services conducted another successful outing for the commercial motor vehicle safety initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to improve the safety of all commercial vehicles, reduce vehicle fatalities and injuries and the economic costs associated with collisions in the Region of Peel.

On Thursday, July 19, 2018 Peel Regional Police alongside multiple surrounding Police Services combined their efforts to conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections in the Region of Peel.

Peel Regional Police joined forces with officers from York Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service, Halton Regional Police, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of the Environment to inspect commercial motor vehicles for operational safety concerns, including tires, brakes, suspensions, load security, the transportation of dangerous goods and driver qualifications.

The initiative concluded after officers inspected 115 commercial vehicles over 4500kg, 4 commercial vehicles under 4500kg, 20 commercial vehicles were placed out of service which is a 23% failure rate putting 1 out of every 5 vehicles inspected out of service and 90 charges were laid.

Peel Regional Police want to remind everyone that road safety is a shared responsibility.
