Peel Regional Police Help Veterans Leave the Streets Behind

In June 2016 Jennifer Zahodnik, a civilian member with Peel Regional Police coordinated the campaign for Operation: Leave the Streets Behind within the Region of Peel by collecting various food, clothing and other necessities to help support the National Homeless Veterans Program. This campaign is run three times a year at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, Jennifer along with other members of Peel Regional Police assembled and donated twelve gift bags to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15 on Mary Street in Brampton.

The Ontario Command Legion Branches also created a Homeless Veterans Assistance Fund. The assistance fund helps house veterans by assisting with first/last month’s rent, furniture and food vouchers, rental help for some facing eviction and medical assistance including dental, transportation, stress therapy and glasses.

“The Legion is actively involved in advocating for supports and solutions for homeless Veterans and if anyone from the public or officers from Peel Regional Police come in contact with a Veteran who they feel could benefit from this program please contact us at www.legion.ca/contact-us” says, Service Officer J Robert Walsh from Legion Branch 15.

Operation: Leave the Streets Behind has a goal to ensure that every homeless or near homeless veteran gets the help they need to leave the streets and secure housing.
