Peel Regional Police and IRCC Welcome New Canadians on Canada Day
Region of Peel – On Canada Day, Peel Regional Police, in proud partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, welcomed 30 new Canadians during an official Citizenship Ceremony.
The event honoured the remarkable journeys of individuals from 16different countries who have chosen to make Canada their home. Presided over by Judge Albert Wong, the ceremony featured remarks from Chief of Peel Regional Police Nishan Duraiappah and was attended by proud family members, community leaders, and elected officials.
Peel Region is one of Canada’s most diverse communities, with over half its 1.5 million residents born outside the country and nearly 70 per cent identifying as visible minorities. Peel Regional Police is committed to reflecting this diversity within its workforce – bringing perspectives, languages, and lived experiences that strengthen public safety and inclusive policing.
