Peel Police-Male Arrested for Attempted Murder, and Firearm Charges, One Being Sought

Region of Peel – Investigators from 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested a male for attempted murder and firearms related offences, and possession of drugs. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in the City of Mississauga incident.

On Tuesday September 19, 2017, a 34 year-old male victim was shot at his apartment unit in the area of Mississauga Valley Boulevard and Central Parkway in the City of Mississauga.

Video surveillance from the building identified the shooter, on Friday September 29, 2017 Canute MCKENZIE, a 21 year-old resident from Toronto was arrested for Attempted Murder, firearms related charges, and drug possession. The firearm used in the shooting was recovered during a search warrant.

MCKENZIE  was held for a bail hearing and transported to Davis court in the City of Brampton, he was charged with the following offences:

  1. Attempt Murder
  2. Point Firearm
  3. Carry Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition In a Careless Manner
  4. Carrying concealed weapon
  5. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  6. Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  7. Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  8. Fail To Comply with Recognizance
  9. Fail To Comply with Recognizance
  10. Possession of a Controlled Substance - Schedule II Cannabis Marihuana under 30grams
  11. Possession of a Controlled Substance - Schedule I Cocaine

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a second male that was present during the shooting. The suspect is male black, clean shaven, with cornrow style hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt, green tack pants, and white running shoes.
