Firearm seized during Traffic Stop

Mississauga – The Peel Regional Police Street Crime Gang Unit have concluded a firearms investigation that resulted in the seizure of 2 guns and the laying of numerous charges against two individuals.  

On Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at approximately 3:55 p.m., Street Crime Gang Unit officers with assistance from the Tactical Unit stopped a vehicle in the area of West Drive in Brampton. A loaded firearm was seized from inside the vehicle in addition to a quantity of drugs. A search warrant was executed at a Mississauga residence, resulting in a second firearm being seized.

Rushsean JAMES, 27 years of age of Mississauga and Dwight BERNARD-CHRISTIE, 21 years of age of Brampton were arrested and charged with:

Rushsean JAMES:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from police
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted device
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

Dwight BERNARD-CHRISTIE:

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing firearm
  • Possession of loaded firearm
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking

JAMES and BERNARD-CHRISTIE have been held for a Special Bail Hearing and will be at the Brampton Ontario Court of Justice.
