Peel Police - Arrest in Human Trafficking Investigation
Brampton – Investigators from the Vice Unit have arrested and charged a male in relation to a human trafficking investigation in the City of Mississauga.
On Friday June 1, 2018 at approximately 6:40 p.m. police responded to a hotel in the area of Argentia Road and Derry Road West in Mississauga for a report of a male suspect who had assaulted a female. Further investigation determined that the male had exploited the 18 year-old female victim in the sex trade for a period of time.
The suspect profited from the victim’s acts, and exercised control over all aspects of her life. During this time, he was in possession of a handgun, which investigators have since recovered.
On Friday June 8, 2018 Brandon REYES, a 23 year-old male of Montreal, was arrested in Montreal, Quebec, on the strength of a Canada Wide Warrant and charged with numerous offences including:
Trafficking in Persons
Receiving Benefit Resulting From Trafficking in Persons
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Assault
REYES appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice for a bail hearing on Wednesday June 13, 2018.
Investigators from the Vice Unit believe that Brandon REYES travels between the G.T.A. and his hometown of Montreal, Quebec, and that there may be more victims and/or witnesses.
