Passing of Retired Police Services Dog Max

Peel Regional Police announce with deep sadness the recent and unexpected passing of retired Police Service Dog (PSD) Max.
PSD Max, call-sign K9-15, served with Peel Regional Police for eight years alongside canine handler Constable Jason Silverberg. During his service, PSD Max assisted on more than 1,000 calls for service, including break-and-enters, robberies, and missing persons investigations. He contributed to hundreds of arrests, including those of homicide suspects.
Specially trained as a cadaver dog, PSD Max was successful in locating 14 deceased persons over the course of his career, offering closure to families and key evidence for trials. He played a key role in several high-profile investigations, both within Peel Region and for other police services, including the Bruce MacArthur homicide investigation, where he located some of the victims.
PSD Max retired in August 2024 and lived with his handler and family until his passing.
Peel Regional Police extend their deepest gratitude for PSD Max’s years of dedicated service, honour his significant contributions to public safety in our community, and offer condolences to his handler, Constable Silverberg, and his family.
Rest easy, PSD Max
