Ontario University Athletics, Peel Regional Police team up for 2025-26 season

Region of Peel – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is partnering with Peel Regional Police for the 2025–26 season to support recruitment efforts and spotlight the journey from varsity athlete to police officer.
The partnership will celebrate former OUA athletes who have transitioned into policing, while also showcasing the career opportunities available in law enforcement for today’s student-athletes.
As part of the partnership, a video series will feature Peel Regional Police officers who once competed in the OUA, sharing their experiences and the connections between varsity athletics and policing. QUOTES
“Peel Regional Police is thrilled to renew our partnership with the OUA to recruit the next generation of police leaders. OUA athletes consistently demonstrate the qualities we value most: leadership, teamwork, and the ability to perform under pressure. These skills carry over into policing, supporting us in providing the highest standard of service to our community.”
-Deputy Chief Mark Dapat, Peel Regional Police
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Peel Regional Police once again and working with an organization that has provided a path for numerous OUA student-athletes. We are pleased to not only spotlight some of those who have pursued a career in policing but also showcase opportunities for student-athletes who might be interested in a similar path.”
-Gord Grace, OUA President & CEO
“Every athlete knows that moment when their playing days end and they wonder, ‘what’s next?’ I felt the same after my time as a varsity athlete at Laurier. Policing was a natural fit, letting me trade one team for another. Through this partnership, we’ll give OUA athletes the chance to explore what it means to be part of Peel Regional Police and help them pursue that path.”
-Superintendent Dyson Smith, Training and Recruiting, Peel Regional Police
