Newest Special Constables Join Peel Regional Police
After 10 weeks of training, sixteen new Special Constables are proud to join the team of Prisoner Escort Officers at Peel Regional Police. These officers are responsible for the care and control of prisoners who are present for scheduled court appearances at one of the busiest courts in Ontario, as well as the safety and security of others in the courtroom setting.
One of those new Special Constables is Jacob Panek. Jacob knew from his first year of high school that he wanted to work for Peel Regional Police, so when the opportunity came up for him to join the service as a Special Constable he knew he couldn’t pass on it.
“In university, my friends and I were looking at different police services and Peel Regional Police always had the highest officer satisfaction ratings. Their scores were miles ahead of everyone and that was what really solidified for me that I wanted to work for them” says Panek.
Prisoner Escort Officers play a key role in the day-to-day functions at the courthouse and in ensuring that court matters run smoothly. Also amongst the officers’ responsibilities is the transportation of prisoners from police divisions and other detention facilities to the courthouse in Brampton.
Chief Jennifer Evans was present for the swearing in ceremony for the Special Constables and said, “The movement of prisoners and the safety of our courtrooms are ensured by the professional and dedicated work of our prisoner escort officers. These officers are also strong supporters of our communities and work tirelessly towards our vision of A Safer Community Together”.
