New Impaired Driving Legislation Bill C-46

Changes have been made in legislation regarding impaired driving it will take effective at 12:00 a.m. December 18, 2018.

The new legislation allows for police officers to stop a motorist and demand that they comply with a  roadside alcohol screening test without developing a suspicion.

Peel Regional Police officers are specialty trained in the apprehension of impaired drivers by drug. They utilize tools such as standardized sobriety testing as well as the new improved drug screening equipment.

The consequences are the same as alcohol if someone is caught impaired driving by drug. The consequences are a criminal charge, a 90 day suspension of your driver’s licence and a 7 day impoundment of the vehicle you are operating. If you refuse to comply with the roadside test the consequences are the same as if you were to perform poorly or fail the test.
