Man Charged in Mississauga Carjacking

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau have arrested a man in relation to a carjacking that occurred in the City of Mississauga. 

On May 13, 2020, at approximately 12:00 a.m., the victim was parked in the area of Tenth Line and Thomas Street in Mississauga. The victim was approached by two male suspects, who were in possession of firearms. The suspects robbed the victim of his vehicle, car keys and cell phone. Two additional suspects entered the victim’s vehicle before it left the parking lot. The victim was not physically injured.

At 11:07 a.m., the vehicle was located by members of the Central Robbery Bureau and the lone male occupant was arrested without incident.

Israel Brathwaite, a 19–year-old male from Mississauga, was charged with the following offences;

  • Robbery with a Firearm 
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of Stolen Property 
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm 
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm 
  • Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Weapon 
  • Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition for a Dangerous Purpose 
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Careless Storage
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle 
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Order
  • Breach of Probation 

He was held for a bail hearing and will attended the Ontario Court of Justice on May 14, 2020.
