Man Arrested in Theft of Vehicle Left Idling

Region of Peel– Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested and laid charges in relation to Theft Over $5000 and Possession of Stolen Property offences in the City of Brampton .

On December 13, 2018 at approximately 9:52 a.m., a 52 year-old man from Barrie left his car running in a parking lot at Ebenezer Road and Highway 50, while he went into a business to purchase a coffee.  Recognizing an opportunity to steal a car, a man entered the running vehicle and drove it away.

At 10:04 a.m. the stolen car was involved in a collision after which the driver exited the car and fled on foot. The driver was arrested a short distance away by responding officers.

On December 13, 2018, Andrew Nguyen, a 23 year-old man from Brampton, was charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property, Flight from Police, Fail to Remain and two counts of Failing to Comply with Recognizance.  He was held for a bail hearing and appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on December 14, 2018.
