Man Arrested for Bank Robberies

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have arrested a man in relation to a series of  financial institution robberies.

Between October 2019 and December 2019, the suspects committed seven robberies at financial locations throughout the Region of Peel and the City of Toronto.  During each robbery, suspects would enter the premise armed with a firearm and their faces covered. They made demands for money, obtaining a quantity of cash. The suspects would then flee the premise to a waiting getaway vehicle.

At 2:54 p.m. on April 8, 2020,  Abdul Del, a 28 year-old male from Brampton was arrested by members of the Central Robbery Bureau. He was charged with seven counts each of Robbery, Use Imitation Firearm, Wear Disguise with Intent, and one count of Posession of Property Obtained by Crime and one count of Possession of Ammunition while Prohibited. He was held for a bail hearing and attended the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

“The impact of financial robberies are significant.  The victims are not just employees that are physically or emotionally harmed, but also the customers, their families and the bank itself who are impacted by these violent crimes.  Take-over style robberies plagued the GTA, including Peel Region. Despite these difficult times, the tireless work by our Central Robbery Bureau has resulted in a successful arrest” stated Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
