Male Charged with 45 Counts of Hate Fueled Mischief

Region of Peel– Investigators from the 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau have arrested and laid charges in relation to mischief to property.

In June of 2017 investigators began looking into graffiti written on property in the City of Mississauga that contained derogatory references to Muslims.

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, 58 year-old Craig Hanley of Mississauga was detained by Transit Enforcement (Security Services, City of Mississauga) and turned over to Peel Regional Police.    

Craig Hanley was arrested and charged with 26 counts of Mischief Over $5000 and 19 counts of Mischief Under $5000.

Craig Hanley was released on a promise to appear with a court date in January 2019.

Peel Regional Police will consult with the Attorney General’s Office in regards to laying hate crime charges.
