Kicking Off Black History Month with Celina Caesar-Chavannes

Every February, Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month celebrations and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present. It is a time to praise the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse, compassionate and prosperous nation it is today.

On January 30, 2020 Peel Regional Police kicked-off Black History Month by welcoming Celina Caesar-Chavannes, a former Member of Parliament and strong advocate for equality in all forms to give a presentation at our training facility hosted by our Equity & Inclusion Bureau.

There was a packed house as Celina gave a heartfelt dialogue of her personal experience as a black woman, and the challenges she faced in different environments - both professional and personal. Using her experience and education, she has become a powerful tool to educate others on understanding each other’s differences in a respectful and positive way.

We would like to thank Celina for the insightful and thought-provoking conversation that has elevated our understanding about the true meaning of diversity and inclusion.
