Former OPSEU Branch President Arrested

Region of Peel – Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Fraud Bureau have arrested and charged former Branch President of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 228, in connection with the misappropriation of union funds.
Following an internal investigation, the OPSEU Local 228 contacted Peel Regional Police and provided evidence that led to a criminal investigation.
Allegations indicate that that the total amount of misappropriated funds exceed $100,000.00
On Sept. 19, 2025, investigators arrested 41-year-old Mark Babcook of Toronto and charged him with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Fraud Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
Babcook was released with conditions to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton to answer to the charges at a later date.
