Flu Season is upon us: Tips on how to stay healthy

Did you know the Flu is different from a common cold, it can come on very suddenly as it is a contagious respiratory illness.
Even healthy active people can get sick with the flu, but those who are at high-risk are the elderly and children under the age of five.
The Flu and other serious respiratory illnesses are spread by cough, sneezing, or unclean hands.
One way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu.
The six tips below are steps that can help everyone stop the spread of germs.
- Avoid close contact with those who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick, it reduces the spread in workplace, schools, and other public places.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or the bend of your arm when coughing or sneezing, not your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water; when are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school.
- Be physically active, regular sleep, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food are all factors in keeping you healthy.
