Employees Honoured With Award
On a blistery Thursday morning in Sault Ste. Marie, members from Peel Regional Police gathered with hundreds of other law enforcement employees from across Ontario to kick-off the 2019 Special Olympics Winter Games. These games have grown from a modest program serving local athletes to becoming the world’s largest movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sports.
We’re proud of the relationship that we have with Special Olympics Ontario and take an active role in ensuring the success of athletes. Recently, Constable Greg O’Connor and Angel Ortolan were the proud recipients of the Rising Flame Award. The award recognizes exceptional leadership skills and continued contribution to the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run which supports Special Olympics Ontario.
“The joy you see on the athlete’s face when you share a high five and celebrate with them is unbelievable; it is an experience that is indescribable. That moment alone makes all the work worthwhile” said Cst. O’Connor.
Angel Ortolan, a civilian employee with Peel Regional Police, spoke about her experiences with this committee, “I am proud to work with such an amazing group of hard-working and dedicated people who truly care about Special Olympics and the athletes. The athletes have such an amazing time at this event and the experiences and skills they gain are invaluable.”
It is people like Greg and Angel that are incredibly valuable to our organization and we are proud of all that they have accomplished. Congratulations on a well-deserved award.
