Driver Arrested After Ramming Police Vehicle, Fleeing from Police
Region of Peel – Officers from the Safer Roads Team (SRT) have arrested a prolific dangerous driver following a traffic stop in Brampton.
On March 18, at approximately 11:45 a.m., officers were alerted of a prohibited driver after an Automated Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) hit on a vehicle near Bovaird Drive and Sunforest Drive. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver fled from police in a dangerous manner.
On March 19, at approximately 8 a.m., officers observed the same vehicle in the area of Sunforest Drive and Wexford Road and began coordinating a plan to arrest the driver. When the vehicle began to move, officers quickly moved in to stop the vehicle. The driver attempted to flee, reversing into a police cruiser, however, officers were able to pin the vehicle with their cruisers, containing it and preventing a pursuit and further risk to the public. Upon arrest, the driver was found to be in possession of a replica firearm.
Further investigation determined that the driver was involved in three prior incidents where he fled from police attempting to stop him for observed offences. In each of those cases, while evading, his behaviour placed the public at significant risk.
The driver, 34-year-old Iqbal Dhatt of Brampton, was arrested and held in custody on the following charges:
• Flight from Police x2
• Dangerous Operation x2
• Mischief Over $5,000
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

• Race Motor Vehicle
• Drive Under Suspension
• Fail to Surrender Insurance Card
• Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle
