Deputy Chief Jarvis Retires After 38 Years of Service
When Dave Jarvis walked through the doors of Peel Regional Police in December 1980, he never anticipated that he would one day be the Deputy Chief for one of the largest municipal police departments in Canada.
He started as a Cadet and quickly transitioned to the rank of Constable where he gained experience while working at 21 Division. In 1988 he was assigned to the Youth / Criminal Investigation Bureau where he worked as an investigator until he was promoted to the rank of Detective in 1998. The following year, while assigned to the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau, he was seconded to the Campbell Report Implementation Committee. This committee was tasked with implementing the recommendations of Justice Archie Campbell following his review of serial rapist and murderer Paul Bernardo. After completing his work on the committee, he returned to Peel Region Police, and in 2003 was promoted to the rank of Detective Sergeant while remaining a part of the Homicide Bureau.
In 2005, Dave Jarvis received the Canadian Banks Law Enforcement Award for his involvement in the investigation of the 1999 TD bank robbery that saw bank employee Nancy Kidd shot and killed. The next few years, he saw assignments in Professional Standards, Criminal Investigations Bureau, Homicide Bureau and a transfer to the Duty Inspector's Office after he was promoted to the rank of Inspector. Dave Jarvis was selected as the lead planner for the involvement of Peel Regional Police in the G8 / G20 summits in the City of Toronto in 2010. Soon afterwards, he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent and was assigned as the Executive Officer to the Chief of Police.
On September 15, 2014, Dave Jarvis was appointed Deputy Chief of Police and continued to proudly represent Peel Regional Police and help lead the men and women that are part of this organization. His commitment to the community we serve and the employees of Peel Regional Police were apparent in all that he did.
After 38 years of service, Deputy Chief Dave Jarvis announced his retirement from policing on February 28, 2019 and has said he plans to make use of his new found free time to travel and experience the world.
From all of us at Peel Regional Police, we want to thank Deputy Chief Jarvis for his 38 years of dedication and service to the residents of Mississauga and Brampton. We wish him well in retirement.
