Chief Jennifer Evans Retires
In 1983, a young motivated woman named Jennifer Evans, started her career as a cadet with Peel Regional Police. Her hard work ethic, dedication and passion for policing, saw her quickly progress through various bureaus and ranks within the organization gaining credibility among her peers.
In 1996, she assisted Justice Archie Campbell in the review involving the high profile case of Paul Bernardo. The review identified twenty-seven recommendations to ensure greater cooperation and the sharing of data between different law enforcement agencies.
In 2008, Jennifer Evans became Deputy Chief and was seconded to conduct a review of the missing women investigations in British Columbia involving Robert Pickton. She later testified at the Missing Women Inquiry about her findings.
On October 12, 2012, Jennifer Evans was appointed the sixth Chief of Peel Regional Police.
Chief Evans received numerous awards throughout her career, including the Order of Merit from the Governor General and has had a long and distinguished career over 35 years. As Chief, she proudly served her community with endless dedication and commitment. The passion that she has for Peel Regional Police, its employees and the community is immense and the memories she has created will be held near and dear to her heart.
On January 10th, 2019, hundreds from across Ontario attended the retirement ceremony to celebrate Chief Evans, her career and to wish her well on her retirement. She left people better than she found them and created a legacy that changed the way we do business. Her dedication to the community and community partners was a testament to her ability to connect and bring people together. She believed that with these connections we would continue to build ‘A Safer Community Together’.
